SB 9, which takes effect January 1, 2022, allows single family lots to be subdivided to allow for duplexes and fourplexes. Cities are concerned because these new units can change the character of the community and ignore local requirements. California is the second state in the nation to dissolve the single family zone. Friends of Harbors, Beaches & Parks (FHBP) opposed SB 9.
