Check out this opinion piece in the LA Times. There is concern about the need for housing and the need to preserve species–like the cougar. There are any number of reasons sprawling development is NOT a good idea (lack of infrastructure, high fire zone, lack of affordability, greenfield development, etc.), but should we consider our top predator and its possible extinction? Without species like the cougar would we be the same California? The same planet?
