Over the last nine months research conducted on 12 mitigation sites throughout Orange County reveals only marginal success restoring habitat. Reviewing multiple project types and locations, study biologist Robb Hamilton and study author Melanie Schlotterbeck concluded natural habitat left intact at the periphery of a development tended to do better than restored areas for a number of reasons. In addition to detailed reviews of the projects and their restoration sites, the study also includes 15 recommendations on how to improve mitigation successes.
