Local zoologist Pete Bloom is seen in this photo banding a burrowing owl in Costa Mesa’s Fairview Park. The banding will help track and identify the birds, which tend to live in open grassy fields/hills. The birds migrate for breeding season, but enjoy wintering here. Reports indicate four burrowing owls have been seen this year on the site.
