E-bikes are gaining popularity these days. Here is the breakdown for how e-bikes are classified:
- Class 1 – Pedal assist — powers the motor when your foot applies pressure to the pedal (max speed 20 MPH).
- Class 2 – Electric motor — goes up to 20 MPH with/without the rider pedaling.
- Class 3 – Pedal assist — goes up to 28 MPH, requires a speedometer.
Please remember to check the rules for any park you plan to visit to ensure an e-bike is allowed before you venture out. For example, at Orange County Parks, all classes of e-bikes are prohibited on unpaved regional and wilderness trails.
