In 2005, Friends of Harbors, Beaches and Parks (FHBP) began working to create an advanced mitigation program with the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) to offset the impacts to 13 freeway projects in the Renewed Measure M transportation sales tax measure.
To date, OCTA has protected 1,300 acres through the acquisition of seven properties. These preserves were purchased at fair market value from willing seller landowners. However, the names of the preserves included old development proposals or even family surnames.
It’s time to change that. OCTA is hosting a Rename the Preserves Campaign. Members of the public are encouraged to vote by the Friday, February 16th deadline. Vote online.
Learn more about this effort and each preserve through videos created by OCTA, but featuring FHBP Consultant Melanie Schlotterbeck.
